How We Can Help
Radon Gas Detection tests need to be done by a licensed professional for accurate results. We are fully Licensed in the State of Illinois to perform residential radon gas measurements. State licensees must follow a quality assurance program and EPA measurement procedures and have demonstrated the ability to take reliable measurements with specific devices. The tests are non-invasive and often times can be accomplished in as little as 48 hours.
Illinois Law requires that when testing for radon gas, the measurement device must be placed in the lowest habitable areas of the home. If a home has a basement, finished or not, it must be tested. A room above a crawl space must be tested, as does a room built slab-on-grade, like a Florida room or sun room as some builders call them. All these rooms in the same house require a total 3 devices for this test to be valid. With homes over 4,000 sq., we use 2 devices in the basement. The test would be taken over 48 hours after closed home conditions are met.
* Note that the Illinois Law requires that closed house conditions must occur before performing a radon test. This means that windows must remain closed and entry doors used in a normal manner and not left open 12 hours before and during the 48 hour test. Obviously under these closed conditions the HVAC system should be operating normally to heat or cool the structure. Unoccupied homes shall be tested with the HVAC system set and operating throughout the measurement interval in the normal range, such as 72 degrees F plus or minus 5 degrees F.
